Illegal Fireworks Suspected In Fire That Displaces St. Helens Family

ST. HELENS, Ore. — A fire late Monday night is believed to have been sparked by illegal fireworks.

The fire started in a tree outside the home on 3rd Street and Columbia Blvd.  Three residents and two dogs made it out safely while another dog was rescued by firefighters.  A parakeet was unaccounted for.

A neighbor who broke a window trying to help people get out injured their hand.

Crews with Columbia River Fire & Rescue worked for several hours to keep the fire from spreading beyond the top floor, but the damage is too severe for the family to stay in.
