Vancouver, Wash. – We are now hearing from a close friend of a teenage boy who was shot and killed by Vancouver Police at the scene of a disturbance call. Detectives say Clayton Joseph ignored commands to put down a knife in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Southeast Ellsworth Road late Tuesday night. But a friend of the teenager tells News Partner KGW the 16-year-old was trying to protect a woman when police arrived.

Joseph was a student at Evergreen High School. The shooting is under investigation and the officer involved in the shooting is on leave.
