PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A former Oregon police officer has been sentenced for repeatedly sexually abusing a girl.

35-year-old John Joseph Wallace Jr. was sentenced Thursday to six years in federal prison and lifelong supervised release.

Court records say Wallace pleaded guilty Jan. 3 in federal court to three counts of abusive sexual contact with a minor.

Records say a state court found Wallace guilty of first-degree charges of attempted sexual abuse and official misconduct and that he is scheduled to be sentenced Friday.

Police say the former Madras officer abused the girl over a period of years on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation about 96 miles (154 kilometers) southeast of Portland.

Authorities say Wallace used his cellphone to communicate with the child and facilitate several incidents of abuse.
