Good news for flu season! Docs expect the same strain of flu to show up this year as we experienced last year. That’s good, because health teams have experience with the vaccine. That flu shot also got an upgrade, so it’s expected to work more effectively.

Dr. Ann Thomas is with Oregon Health Authority, she says they’re predicting a similar strain because the same flu that hit the northern hemisphere last winter, hit the southern hemisphere this summer. She says researchers tweaked the vaccine so it should prevent more flu cases.

Thomas says it’s too early to tell how rough the flu season will be. She says it’s just best to prepare, get the shot and  take advantage of incentives offered by several locations as rewards.

You can track the data during flu season on the Health Authority’s website.
