Fatal Crash Closes Parts Of Hwy 26 Saturday Afternoon Near Necanicum Junction

HAMLET, ORE – Parts of Highway 26 were closed for three and half hours Saturday afternoon near the Necanicum Junction while crews investigated a Fatal Crash involving two vehicles.
A Preliminary investigation reveals that 49 year old, Fredrick Scheffler II of Portland, lost control of his black 2020 Tesla Model Y, crossing into the eastbound lane. Scheffler II collided with a grey Hyundai Tucson van, driven by 26-year old Kyle Reiger of Warrenton.
According to a release from Oregon State Police, Scheffler II sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rieger was transported by ambulance in serious condition.
OSP was assisted by the Seaside Fire Department, Hamlet Fire Department, and ODOT.
