Ex-Shipyard Commander in Washington State Fired

BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) – The Navy says a rear admiral and former commander of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard was fired from his post as director of industrial operations of the Naval Sea Systems Command because of an inappropriate relationship.

The Kitsap Sun reports Vice Adm. Thomas Moore relieved Rear Adm. Stephen Williamson because of a “loss of confidence in his ability to lead” on Aug. 2. The move was based on a Navy Inspector General’s investigation into Williamson’s personal conduct.

Naval Sea Systems Command spokeswoman Colleen E. O’Rouke says evidence of a consensual, but inappropriate, personal relationship was found in an investigation.

Williamson commanded the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from June 2012 to August 2015.

Williamson has been temporarily assigned to the Office of Naval research.

The Navy says no charges have been brought against him.
