You haven’t seen it all, until you’ve seen an elephant fly. This week, Disney drops a live-action version of Dumbo! Tim Burton brings to life the story of a struggling circus owner Max Medici, who enlists a former star and his two children to care for Dumbo, a baby elephant born with oversized ears. When the family discovers that the animal can fly, it soon becomes the main attraction — bringing in huge audiences and revitalizing the run-down circus. The elephant’s magical ability also draws the attention of V.A. Vandevere, an entrepreneur who wants to showcase Dumbo in his latest, larger-than-life entertainment venture. Unlike some of the other live action Disney releases, this is not a scene for scene recreation of the original. No talking animals, but plenty of drama and a solid story line. Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton and Danny Devito deliver memorable performances. I’m normally not a fan of Tim Burton Disney movies, they’re usually too dark for my taste. But this may be Burton’s best work since Batman or Beetlejuice, both of which starred Michael Keaton. Hmm, maybe there’s something there. Dumbo gets a solid 4 out of 5 popcorn emojis. I think its better than the original cartoon and my kids loved it! Be sure to check out my other One Minute Movie Reviews for Captain Marvel and Us.
