Driver Dies In Chain-Reaction Crash In Salem

SALEM, Ore. — A driver died in a chain-reaction crash involving seven vehicles in South Salem on Monday morning.

Investigators say a driver did not stop at a red light on Owens Street South near Commercial Street Southeast just before 7:30 and rear-ended a vehicle stopped at the intersection, killing that driver.  He’s identified as 54-year-old Jose Lopez Jr.  Another person was taken to the hospital.

Investigators suspect that speed and a medical issue may have contributed to the crash.
