Portland, Ore. — (Update) – We’ve learned the deadly semi crash may have also damaged a sign that hangs over the I-5 Freeway, and that sign has to be fixed first before the freeway can reopen. ODOT officials are now saying I-5 North will likely be closed for most of the morning commute.

A fiery crash kills the driver of a semi-truck traveling on I-5 North near Barbur Blvd. Wednesday night.

Portland Police say the semi-truck was the only vehicle involved in the crash and the driver died at the scene.

I-5 North is closed and traffic was rerouted north on Highway 217 to Highway 26 to get around the crash.

It’s not clear what caused the crash. The name of the driver involved has not been released.
