Portland, Oregon – Update: The suspect in this morning’s investigation has been identified as 38-year-old Daniel Connor. He was lodged into the Multnomah County Detention Center on one count of murder and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.  All streets and sidewalks are now open. Police responding to reports of an assault in downtown Portland find a man on the sidewalk bleeding badly, and he died a short time later. Officers and medical crews treated the victim at Southwest Broadway and Alder around 12:30am this morning, but he died at the scene. Cops detained one person a few blocks away. Homicide detectives have have closed Southwest Broadway between Washington and Morrison and Southwest Alder between Park Avenue and 6th Avenue.

On Monday, April 8, 2019, at 12:31 A.M., Central Precinct officers responded to the report of an assault in the area of Southwest Broadway and Southwest Alder Street in Downtown. Officers and medical crews arrived and discovered a man unconscious and bleeding heavily on the sidewalk. He was pronounced deceased.

Officers have detained one person several blocks away.

Homicide Detectives are enroute to the scene to assume the investigation.

Officers have closed Southwest Broadway between Southwest Washington Street and Southwest Morrison Street, and Southwest Alder between Southwest Park Avenue and 6th Avenue to all pedestrian and vehicle traffic. It will likely remain closed for several hours.
