Cuts On The Way To Travel Oregon

SALEM, Ore.–We’re not going anywhere and people aren’t aren’t coming to Oregon.  The state’s 13 Billion dollar tourism industry has hit the skids because of the Coronavirus pandemic.  Travel Oregon the State’s Tourism Commission is really feeling it.  Most of it’s funding comes from state lodging taxes.  Daily room rates are down a third in 6 weeks.  Through June 30th a budget that was 8 million dollars is now 3 million dollars.

By June 1st Travel Oregon will close it’s Salem office and 17 of 64 employees will be laid off another 3 will be furloughed indefinitely.  The CEO will take a 20% pay cut.  Other staff will take pay reductions from

5% to 20 %.
