COVID Cutbacks Spell Layoffs at Precision Castparts

PORTLAND, Ore. — Employees of Precision Castparts in Southeast Portland who were told earlier this month they were being furloughed for two weeks are now laid off indefinitely.

The company, which makes large metal components for Boeing airplanes and other industrial products, said Wednesday that because of falling demand due to COVID-19, it will significantly cut its workforce.  Employees say the layoffs total about 200 and jobs at its smaller operation in Clackamas are also being cut.

Precision Castparts is one of the largest manufacturers in Oregon having employed as many 3,000 people in the state, over 30,000 worldwide with more than 160 manufacturing facilities.
