Eugene, Oregon – A man who was shot and killed near the University of Oregon campus has been identified. Eugene Police say 21-year-old Alex Gradin was a student at Lane Community College. The shooting happened Saturday morning in a parking lot owned by the University. It sits right behind a popular student bar. No arrests have been made in the case.

The victim of the shooting has been identified as Alex Oyombe Gradin, age 21, of Eugene and a student at Lane Community College.

Alex’s family has released the following statement:

“We appreciate the outpouring of love and concern we have received in the tragic death of our son, Alex. He was an unexpected blessing to our lives when he joined us as a baby in Kenya and grew to be a compassionate, thoughtful young man. He naturally made many friends all over the world, who are grieving right now. We request at this time that you allow us to heal and support each other as a family.”

Police Investigate Fatal Shooting at 13th and Kincaid

At1:44 a.m. today, May 4, Central Lane 911 received multiple calls regarding shots fired at 13th and Kincaid, in the parking lot behind Taylor’s Bar and Grill, 894 E. 13th Avenue. University of Oregon Police Department and Eugene Police Department responded and found a person on the ground with life-threatening injury from a gunshot wound. They immediately rendered emergency medical aid, but the person died at the scene.
EPD secured scene with UOPD. Violent Crimes Unit and Forensic Evidence Unit joined patrol on scene and the investigation is continuing.
The victim’s name is being withheld until the family can be notified.
