Clark County Deputies Search For Attempted Murder Suspect

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Clark County Deputies are asking the public for help in finding shooting suspect 40 year-old Kenneth M Debruyn, 40, of Vancouver, WA.  They say he is a person of interest in a shooting and also has a felony warrant out of Clackamas County, OR.  Below is a portion of a 2 updated press releases from Clark County Sheriff’s Deputies:

Detectives, with the assistance of the SW Washington Regional SWAT Team, served a search warrant on a residence that was believed to be associated with the suspect in the area of the vehicle crash.

The suspect was not located at the residence. Detectives are following up on several leads at this time but the suspect remains outstanding and is considered armed and dangerous.

As mentioned previously, the suspect and victim were know to each other. It appears this was not a random act and the altercation may have stemmed from an argument involving a girlfriend.


On March 6th, 2023 at about 01:37am, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Dell Terrace Apartment complex, 7422 NE Hazel Dell Ave, Vancouver, after multiple 9-1-1 callers reported hearing a gunshot and screams in the area. Responding deputies located an adult male in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound to the torso. Deputies learned the suspect in the shooting was known to the victim and witnesses.  The suspect had left in a known vehicle.

At about 02:20am, a Vancouver Police Officer spotted the suspect vehicle in the North Image neighborhood of Vancouver. The vehicle attempted to elude police but crashed after only a few blocks. The suspect fled on foot. The suspect vehicle was recovered by law enforcement at the intersection of NE 49th St and NE 137th Ave.

The Southwest Washington Regional SWAT Team was activated to initiate a search for the suspect. At this time, resources have been focused on a residence with which the suspect is known to be associated, located near where the vehicle was recovered.

At this time, the suspect remains outstanding while police actively search for him. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

The victim of the shooting was transported to an area hospital to receive treatment for the gunshot would which is not considered life-threatening at this time.
