Bynum Leads DeRemer in Closely Watched Oregon Congressional Race

After tens of millions of dollars in campaign spending and a fierce fight, the votes are edging toward a win for Oregon State Representative Janelle Bynum in her bid to unseat Congresswoman Lori Chavez Deremer.   Bynum is leading 47.7% to 45.4 % with 69% of the vote counted.  Bynum, a democrat and business owner, sells her negotiating skills.  “It’s not just enough to say, okay, here’s my proposal. You take it or leave it. It’s how do you work across the aisle? How do you work with farmers and ranchers and everyday working people to solve their problems?”
She insisted that her race was winnable in Oregon’s Congressional District 5.
“The battle for us as Democrats is recognizing that this seat is ours.”
And she also pointed out her victories over the same opponent in two state races:
“By electing me, the only candidate who has beaten Lori Chavez DeRemer not once, but twice, you’ll have a proven leader. Just like the mailman who shows up every day. As your next Congresswoman from Oregon, I’ll deliver for you.”
Another Oregon democrat, incumbent Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, is also leading in her race for District 6.  She told supporters she looks forward to working with Bynum.  “Here in Oregon we have made our voices heard, loud and clear for democracy and for our futures.”
