Burglars Bring Scanner To Attempted Heist

Burglars who tried to steal thousands of dollars worth of Honda generators this morning from Coastal Farm and Ranch in Cornelius were stopped in their tracks. Washington County sheriffs say they pulled over the suspects as they were pulling out of the store’s parking lot, in a stolen truck, with the goods.  Deputies say the suspects were monitoring law enforcement with a scanner app.

Some law enforcement agencies are encrypting their radio transmissions so bad guys don’t gain an advantage on officers.  Is there any way to balance scrambling those radio signals with the public’s right to know?  Please send your thoughts.
