Body Found Near The Yakima River

WAPATO, Wash. (AP) – Yakima County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a body discovered outside Wapato near the Yakima River.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports a man told the Wapato Police Department on Sunday that he found a body on one of the islands in the river about a half-mile west of the Donald-Wapato Bridge.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Casey Schilperoort says the body was badly decomposed and deputies were unable to determine gender or any apparent cause of death.

Yakima County Chief Deputy Coroner Marshall Slight says an autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.
