Portland, Or. – A 35 year old Microsoft employee from the Seattle area has filed a $10 million dollar suit against the Double Tree Hotel in the Lloyd District. The Oregonian reports Jermaine Massey, who is black , claims racial profiling.

He says he was in the lobby on an emergency phone call with his mom when a security guard asked if he was a guest and asked for his room number. Massey then used his cell phone to record what happened next.   You can hear the security guard say “Portland Police will be here in a minute.” Massey replies ” thank you; call them.” Massey then asks why police are coming and the guard tells him to ” escort you off the property.” Massey says he’s staying there and the guard replies “not any more.”

The hotel released a statement to The Oregonian in response to the lawsuit. It says in part“Hilton has zero tolerance for racism and is committed to providing a welcoming environment for all guests. As a demonstration of our inclusive culture, our corporate employees and Hilton-managed hotels have completed diversity and unconscious bias training.”
