Portland, Or. – Students in the Portland School District begin the new school year today. Students at Grant High will be in the newly remodeled building for the first time. The improvements were funded by a 482 million dollar bond.

The school features a double entry, a new safety measure. Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero says he wants students to feel safe, so they have a good learning environment and so parents’ minds will be at ease. police were on hand for students at Creston elementary.  They are working to keep kids safe by having them travel walking in marked crosswalks .  Officers advise parents to have children put down their phones and  remove ear buds and headphones to help them pay attention to school buses and drivers.  Drivers are reminded to slow down school zones are marked at 20 mph.
