$5.5 Billion Dollar Budget On The Table To Run The City Of Portland For A Year

PORTLAND, Or—Portland city council is expected to approve the $5.5 Billion dollar budge this afternoon during the late day session that starts at 2 P.M.  the budget is nearly 6 percent bigger than last year’ budget at $5.1billion dollars.  Funding for the  Joint Office of Homeless Services is expected to stay the same  at $32 million . $2.9 Billion will help pay for care of city streets sewers, and drinking water.

The Parks and Recreation budget isn’t big enough to support it there’s a $6 million dollar gap to fill .  That’s why possibly 50 staff could lose their jobs.  Community centers on short schedules or close . Burning the midnight oil commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty  wants to eliminate the Portland police Bureau Gun Violence Reduction Team and give more funding to Portland Fire and Rescue, the Housing Bureau, and the Office of Community and Civic Life.  the final approval of the budget will be enacted June 1st.
