NASA Identifies Mystery Noise

Portland, Or. –  NASA says  a loud boom that was heard from Portland to Seattle last night was a meteor. NASA’s Karen Northon says it was first spotted 51 miles above Tacoma, Washington moving at a speed of 31,000 miles per hour. She says it then fragmented over Skykomish, Washington. She says this is not that unusual. She says ” we get reports of these every couple of months.”

Shawn Weagle at the National Weather Service Portland office lives in Garden Home and says he heard a “low rumbling sound, not quite like thunder, but it was lower than that and it was a consistent low sound for about a second or two.” He says it made his dog start barking.
