TSA Needs More Officers…and Needs Them NOW

PORTLAND, Ore. – Because PDX is booming, the TSA is holding a rare “fast track” hiring event Monday, March 12th and Tuesday, March 13th at the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel, “Normally, when we have a candidate that applies to be an officer, it takes 90 to 120 days. We’re doing an accelerated hiring event, where they’ll go through all of the various steps in a 2 to 3 day period.” said Stephen Taber, Deputy Federal Security Director for the State of Oregon.

Starting pay is $16.60 an hour, with a raise to $18.00 an hour after a year on the job. But, Taber says the job is worth more than just money, “It’s a chance to start with the federal government, which provides a great starting wage (and) benefits. And the TSA is a career option. And it’s a stepping stone for people who want to move into other federal careers.”

He says they’re looking for people motivated for public service, hopefully a veteran, and, especially, females.
