Traffic Alert: I-5 SB Closes Downtown For Six Nights

PORTLAND, Ore. — Interstate 5 southbound will be closed between the Fremont and Marquam bridges for six nights starting Friday for paving and sign replacement.

Lane closures will begin at 7:00pm, the on-ramps at 9:00 and all lanes will close by 10:00.  The freeway will re-open at 10:00am on Saturday, 11:00am Sunday, and 5:00am on weekdays.

Traffic will be diverted onto I-405 and the Fremont Bridge.  The closure includes the ramp from I-84 westbound to I-5 southbound.  The on-ramp at the Moda Center/Rose Quarter will close at 11:00pm on event nights.

Crews are replacing 300 signs between Southwest Corbett and North Lombard as federal standards require every 10 to 15 years.

“The new signs will be more reflective, less cluttered and easier to read,” said ODOT’s Don Hamilton.

It’s part of a project funded by the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program.  They’re also repaving seven miles between Capitol Highway and the Marquam Bridge.

You can expect closures to through the end of the year as crews finish the project.
