Today’s the day that Bill Johnson made Olympic history in 1984 by becoming the first American to win the gold in the Olympic downhill.
Johnson was cool and confident and angered his Austrian competitors who dominated the race for so long. For Johnson,
it was a quick rise up the mountain of fame followed by a long road back down. He ended up dying in a nursing home in Gresham two years ago when he took himself off life support. Powder.com did a really interesting story on him that I thought I’d share.
