Portland Briefly Turns Into Winter Wonderland

Portland, OR – Snow fell in Portland Sunday, but the winter weather advisory expired Sunday night. Still, many Portlanders enjoyed the belated White Christmas.

The only closure was Northwest Germantown Road and Skyline Boulevard, because of slick conditions and because a tree fell in the northbound lanes on Sunday. About a dozen cars were trapped.

At Government Pass, hundreds of drivers were stuck for hours in a traffic jam in the Cascades until Sunday night.

The snowy, cold weather in Portland also caused a problem with the city’s pipes. The Portland Water Bureau was scrambling to stay ahead of three broken water mains, the last of the breaks was repaired Sunday night.
