Deadly Pendleton House Fire Was Not Arson
By Jeremy Scott
PENDLETON, Ore. -- A house fire early Sunday morning in Eastern Oregon turned tragic when five people, including three children were killed.
Two other adults escaped the burning home on Southeast Court Place, but they were not unscathed. 49-year-old David Eikstadt and Kay Williams, 27, are at a Portland hospital with burns.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives helped with the investigation. They found no evidence that the fire was intentionally set. There was also no sign of drug manufacturing as rumors hinted.
There are unconfirmed reports that the blaze started on the front porch, possibly in a can of cigarette butts.
