Sean Mannion, Brandin Cooks and Mike Riley guided the
Beavers to a big overtime win in Salt Lake City while Pete Carroll and the tough
Seattle defense laid the hammer down on the 49ers in Seattle this weekend. The Dean of Portland sports, Kerry Eggers, joined
Chad on Flight 750 to weigh in on the big weekend for northwest sports.
“If you had told me that the Niners would go in there and score three points and get 207 yards of total offense I would have wondered what you were smoking. I give the Seahawks a lot of credit. However, I really wonder what happened. Something was wrong with the 49er offense. They just weren’t there.”
Eggers also said that the Seahawks have one of the most complete teams in all of the NFL.
“They don’t have a lot of holes. They’ve got good receivers. They’ve got a good running game. And their defense is solid all around. They’ve got some guys out too…They’ve got some parts. Once they get everything whole, they can be pretty good.”
And finally Eggers talked about the great play of Sean Mannion as he led his team back to an overtime victory on Saturday night.
“I think you can make the case that for three consecutive games, I don’t know if there’s ever been a more consistent quarterback in Oregon State history. He’s kind of carried them through the pass game and I think you’ve got to give Mike Riley a lot of credit too because at this point, the defense has been inconsistent and the running game woeful and they’ve still managed to win a couple games.”
Take a listen to the great interview and be sure to check out Eggers’ wonderful work every week in the Portland Tribune.
