The Ducks are getting ready to travel across the country to take on the Virginia Cavaliers who just upset the BYU Cougars. One of our favorite Ducks, senior safety Brian Jackson joined Chad Thursday on Flight 750 to preview the game and discuss the team’s season-opening beatdown of Nicholls State.Jackson first talked about the play in which Terrence Mitchell was ejected per the new NCAA targeting rule.
“The situation that Terrence was in, he was already in the midst of making a tackle and that quarterback happened to make the decision to slide as Terrence was in the air and that just resulted in a helmet to helmet hit. It’s kind of unfortunate, but that’s just the way things roll.”
Jackson also talked about what it’s like to get his teammate Avery Patterson back on the field after his season was cut short last year.
“It’s been good to play with him again because he’s really made himself a prominent player in our defense. And I just really like how he’s come back in and hasn’t missed a beat.”
And finally, Jackson talked about what he’s seen from Junior defensive end Tony Washington as he has had to step in for Dion Jordan.
“I see Tony as someone who looked up to Dion very much. Tony would say some things like 'Dion is passing the torch onto me, so I’ve got to carry it the right way.' He feels like he’s got some big shoes to fill and I feel like he’s been stepping up this year.”
