The Ducks are coming off a huge 66-3 victory over the Nicholls State Colonels to kickoff their 2013 season. Voice of the Ducks, Jerry Allen, joined Chad on Flight 750 Monday to talk about the great start to the season.Jerry first talked about the emotional sight after the game when Mark Helfrich was given the game ball by his team.
“That’s got to be right up there with when he was announced as the new Head Football Coach when we had the big announcement upstairs in the Club Room at Autzen. To receive the first game ball for your first game from your quarterback and from your team, that’s going to be something he’ll remember for the rest of his life.”
Jerry also talked about the player who surprised him the most on Saturday.
“I was pleasantly surprised with Derrick Malone. I thought he played really really well – I think he led the team in tackles. And that’s what he needs to do. He needs to fill in that spot and be the guy.”
And finally, Jerry gave his thoughts on the Oregon State Beavers’ embarrassing loss to FCS Eastern Washington Eagles to open the season.
“I felt bad for Mike Riley because he’s such a great guy. I want so badly for him to do well. That’s got to be tough when half your team did exactly what they were supposed to do and looked great doing it. The defense? I have no answer for that. Eastern Washington is probably a whole lot better than people realized. But still, it’s Eastern Washington.”
Take a listen to the great interview and be sure to listen for Jerry and Jorgi calling the game right here on 750thegame.
