The Ducks are getting ready to start their first season in the Post-Chip Kelly era as they take on the Colonels from Nicholls State on Saturday. Ducks Radio Analyst Mike “Jorgy” Jorgensen joined Chad on Flight 750 Thursday to preview the game and talk about the expectations for the upcoming season. In being a former QB at the U of O, Jorgy talked about what it’s like preparing for that opening season game.
“Oh you’re excited. You’re anxious to get it going. You spend a lot of time in the off-season. I mean all summer long, going to summer school and the dreaded workouts that you sometimes fight your way through regardless of rain or shine or how hot it is.”
Jorgy also said that Saturday is not just an exciting time for the Duck players. Head Coach Mark Helfrich should also be very excited to get to lead the team onto the field for the first time.
“If I’m Mark Helfrich, the rush of the first time of running out that tunnel – Cuz it will be his first time – He’s usually planted his rear end up in the box when the team comes down that tunnel – He gets to lead the team out of the tunnel and onto the field. And as a former player, you can’t wait till that part gets here because it’s what you’ve been working towards.”
And finally Jorgy talked about the guy he’s most excited to see take the field come Saturday.
“Just based on the opportunities that he’s going to get, and this probably isn’t going to be a surprise to anybody, I’m really excited to see Byron Marshall play. I just really am. You look at the two-deep depth chart and De’Anthony Thomas is listed as the starting tailback, but he’s not going to get 25-30 carries a game…But you take a look at Byron Marshall, that’s the position he’s going to play.”
Take a listen to the great interview and be sure to tune in live as the Ducks take on the Colonels of Nicholls State at 1:00pm right here on 750thegame.
