Brandin Cooks will once again be the speed demon running on the outside for the Oregon State Beavers. But at this point, it is unclear who will man the other receiver spot that has been vacated by Markus Wheaton. Cooks joined Chad on Flight 750 Thursday to talk about that competition and discuss the upcoming season at Oregon State.Cooks insists that there is a big competition brewing at receiver between Richard Mullaney and Obum Gwacham.
“There’s a lot of heat going on over there because both of the guys are making plays. So it’s not an easy choice to say who will be named the starter. It’s neck and neck right now and that’s what I like because I know whichever guys gets the starting spot will be ready for game time.”
Cooks also said that he thinks he can improve upon his yards per catch average from 17 yards to more than 20 yards.
“Oh yeah! That’s what I’m looking for. I feel like I’m a lot more explosive so a lot of things are going to change after the catch. I’ve put on some weight and got stronger, so I’m going to be breaking those tackles a little bit more.”
And finally he talked about his realistic expectations for the team this season.
We had a nine-win season last year, so we’re hungry for that 10th win. And we’re not just going to stop at 10 wins. We plan on taking it week by week like we started off last year, but this time be consistent and finish through.
Take a listen to the great interview and be sure to stay locked in to 750thegame throughout the preseason and the regular season for all the latest updates regarding the Beavers.
