Do you feel a whitewash coming? I mean on the Jeff Cogen scandal involving sex with a subordinate and the diversion of hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep the County Chair’s girlfriend in a job?
Cogen clearly violated the county’s prohibitions on having sex with subordinates and likely violated the law when he used taxpayer dollars to pay for “hooking up”. Cogen’s colleagues demand his resignation and he simply refuses. An investigation is underway.
The public is hearing about bits and pieces of information about it as it oozes out of this sleazy situation. But now the Attorney general has ordered public agencies to stop releasing information during the investigation. There are times when police agencies clamp down on information during investigation. But in this case, it appears that the AG is trying to help Cogen brazen this out and keep his six figure job. That’s wrong.
The AG should investigate…but in the meantime, the public should hear every scrap of information that’s available in public records. This is a potential criminal matter…but its also a political decision and keeping the public in the dark is wrong.
