Child's Body Recovered from Sandy River
Divers in the water
Divers were back in the Sandy River at Glen Otto Park today looking for the body of a boy who drowned nearly three weeks ago. They were also doing some training.
A child's body was found under a large rock about 75 yards downstream. It's awaiting positive identification, but it's believed to be that of 7-year-old Askhur Rahman.
He was playing with his brother on June 30th. They did not have life jackets on, even though there are free flotation devices available at the park and a lifeguard station. The 9-year-old was rescued, but lifeguards couldn't find Askhur.
"It's heartwrenching, unfortunate. There's no reason you shouldn't just grab a life jacket and put it on your child," said Troutdale Police Sergeant Carey Kaer.
The currents are strong in that area and can easily push swimmers down river.
