A logger was hit by a tree in the coast range and sat there bleeding with broken legs for two and a half hours before being rescued this morning outside of Forest Grove.
He was cutting trees when a log the size of a tree rolled down a hill and hit the man, injuring his lower extremities.
The accident happened off the Wilson River Highway east of the Tillamook/Washington County line. The victim was two to three miles off the highway.
The Coast Guard lowered a rescuer into a steep ravine about 400' off a logging road and carried the man back up that incline in a basket. He was hoisted into the chopper and taken to a Portland hospital.
Authorities warn those logging in rural areas to have some wilderness EMT or basic first aid training. It could be quite a distance to travel for cell phone service in an emergency.
