As the closing arguments wind down in the trial of George Zimmerman, I feel that George Zimmerman is still in trouble...
Here is why I think he is still in trouble: If you look at the facts in this case, you'd easily see that it never should have gone to trial. But, despite the cops on the scene and the District Attorney seeing no reason to bring charges against Zimmerman, but it happened anyway.
Witness after witness for the prosecution appeared more like witnesses for the defense. When it came time for the defense to state it's case, they asked the judge to end the case because the state had failed to prove the charge brought against Zimmerman. But the judge allowed the case to go on.
Why has all this happened? There is one reason, and one reason only: RACE!
If Zimmerman had shot a white guy that night, we wouldn't be having a trial. Because Trayvon Martin was a young BLACK man, and Zimmerman is what CNN is describing as a "white hispanic", there was an uproar from several high level members of the black community including President Obama, Eric Holder, and Al Sharpton. Before we knew it, Zimmerman had been charged and now faces spending the majority of his life behind bars...all for defending himself.
If you need more proof, look no further than this statement made by Prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda during closing arguments in which he refers to their star witness Rachel Jeantel:
“I had a dream … that today, a witness would be judged not on the color of her personality, but the content of her testimony,” Mr. Rionda told the jury.
The invocation of MLK is just another way to inject race into this case, and to further drive home their theory that Zimmerman was a racist...
America is a nation of laws, and it pains me to see the laws of our nation so blatantly thrown by the wayside. Every man and woman is guaranteed the right to a fair trial. But we all know that with George Zimmerman...that's practically impossible.
