Nyjah Huston Brings Street League To PDX
Professional street skateboarder Nyjah Huston joined guest host Fletcher Johnson on the Bald Faced Truth Thursday afternoon to talk about his upcoming appearance at the Street League Skateboarding Tour
July 14th at the Rose Garden.
17 year old Huston was raised in Puerto Rico in a strictly religious Rastafarian household. He credits this discipline with his professional success.
“I would definitely say I grew up in a rather strict childhood. My dad always tried to keep me and my siblings focused on the positive things in life. I completely respect that. I think it’s good as a kid to have some freedom but I honestly am completely thankful for the way I was raised. I think it’s how I got to where I am now.”
Huston, who began skateboarding at the age of five, has been featured in Tony Hawk’s line of skateboarding video games.
“I have played them a couple times, I’m probably a lot better at skating in real life than I am at playing them, but it’s definitely an honor and a privilege to be in them.”
Huston first competed in the X Games at age eleven and said that this particular tour has been especially competitive.
“All the competitions I’ve been a part of in the last few years have been really close. This one in Portland is going to be a good stop, and I think the crowd is going to have a big surprise in store for them.”
