Portland Police say a motorcyclist was speeding when he lost control and slammed into an apartment on Southeast Milwaukie Avenue near McLoughlin just after 2:30 this morning. The man was thrown off the bike and killed on impact.
He failed to make it around a curve, went onto the sidewalk and hit the side of the apartment before the motorcycle hit a parked car.
One of the units was severely damaged and the living room area destroyed. Fortunately, the young woman living there and her visiting mother were asleep in the back.
Debris was spread all over the front yard. Neighbor Rochelle was watching television when she heard the motorcycle. "He was driving very, very, very fast. He probably had it (the throttle) fully opened up."
She called 9-1-1 and ran out looking for the victim, finding him without a pulse lying in the bushes. The man is 34-years-old.
This is the 23rd fatal crash in Portland this year and the fourth in the past week.
