Gresham Woman's Killer Gets Life in Prison
Holt's mug shot
Heichel with her husband
The man accused of murdering his Gresham neighbor will spend life in prison without parole.
Johathan Holt changed his plea to guilty on Monday. Whitney Heichel was sexually abused and shot last fall. Her body was left hidden on Larch Mountain.
Holt cried as he explained that he shot and killed Heichel last fall, telling the court, "I have stolen a daughter, sister and wife."
Heichel's family was in the courtroom, and her husband Clint asked, "What do you say to the man who has taken the love of your life?" He says he never suspected Holt.
According to court documents, Holt told investigators that he waited outside Heichel's Gresham apartment last October and asked her for a ride. Once in the car, he forced her at gunpoint to drive to Roslyn Lake where she was sexually assaulted and murdered.
