39th/Cesar Chavez to Re-Open Early
By Jeremy Scott
A closed section of a major street in Southeast Portland is reopening more than a week ahead of schedule.
39th/Cesar Chavez has been closed from Hawthorne to Division since June 28th for sewer construction. The city plans to open the street before the Tuesday morning commute around 1:00.
Crews with Moore Excavation have been working around the clock replacing 120-year-old sewer pipes and putting in a large manhole at 39th and Harrison.
"The early completion of this project is great news for motorists, residents and business owners and I appreciate their patience while we completed this important work," said Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish.
"This project creates an improved sewer system that will reliably serve this neighborhood and protect our environment for decades to come."
The closure was scheduled for three weeks, but the projected was done in eleven days.
