St. Paul Rodeo Starts Tonight
The 2013 St. Paul Rodeo kicked off this morning with it's annual horse drive on the city's main street.
Event organizers say the drive "harkens back to the 1930s and ‘40s, before the days of semi-trucks and
trailers, when the rodeo directors would gather up the horses and bulls
and herd them to the rodeo grounds."
“It’s a tradition that goes back to the beginnings of the rodeo,” said
director Bill Smith. “Many of the bucking horses for those first rodeos
came from local farmers and ranchers, and were driven into town to be
used for the rodeo.” The horses in the herd will be the once ridden during the rodeo.
The rodeo kicks off tonight with a Pro Bull Riders event. Pro rodeo will take place July 3rd through the 6th at 7:30 pm, and a 1:30 pm matinee rodeo
on July 4th.
