Local Man Among 19 Firefighters Killed In Arizona

Crews are battling grief and flames as they fight the Arizona wildfire that left 19 firefighters dead. The bodies of those firefighters have been transported to the medical examiner's office for autopsies. The fast moving flames have torched more than eight-thousand acres and burned over 200 structures. The fire is zero percent contained.
Among those killed is 2007 West Linn High School graduate John Persin Jr. His father, John Persin Sr. still lives in West Linn. His family issued a written statement late Monday afternoon:
"John was a brave
and courageous man who never hesitated to put others before himself.He was loved by many, and he will always be remembered. He is an
inspiration to us all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of his fallen
brothers and their families."
Portland Mayor Charlie Hales ordered city flags to fly at half staff.
Portland Fire Commissioner Dan Saltzman says “A tragedy like this reminds us that first responders everywhere choose to put their own lives on the line for the rest of us. Such bravery, and such sacrifice, cannot be forgotten.”CLICK HERE
