Tom Glavine is Coaching Baseball's Youth
Two time Cy Young Award winner and World Series MVP Tom Glavine joined John Canzano on The Bald Faced Truth to talk about the pressure being placed on athletes, from top professionals to little leaguers.
“I don’t care what sport you play, it always helps having a great player,” says Glavine, a ten time All Star. “Trust me, great players aren’t getting it done by themselves.”
While the spotlight on superstars such as LeBron James is to be expected, Glavine spoke with John about the riggers that he sees young baseball players face in their lives. “If you don’t start cutting back the number of games these kids are playing in tournaments and in weekends, then it’s going to be virtually impossible not to expose somebody somewhere to a little bit of over-use.”
With the always increasing importance society places on sports, youth today are more at risk than ever of becoming victims of over ambitious systems designed to create champions before it teaches fundamentals. Glavine gave his views on what should be stressed at the lower levels of baseball.
