Julia Sweeney in Portland
Saturday Night Live alum Julia Sweeney
joined John Canzano on The Bald-Faced Truth Thursday afternoon to talk about her time on SNL and and her appearance Thursday night at Powell’s to promote her new book, “If It’s Not One Thing, It’s Your Mother
Sweeney created “Pat
,” the mysteriously androgynous SNL character popular in the 90s.
Sweeney moved to Los Angeles and worked as an accountant for Columbia Studios.
“I really wanted to work on the business side of it. I was too shy to say that I wanted to be a performer.”
Sweeney once did an impression of Chelsea Clinton that quickly drew the ire of then-First Lady Hillary Clinton.
“I didn’t think I was doing a negative impression. All I was doing was not having makeup on and wearing a really curly wig. So when they were saying ‘She looks so unattractive!’ I was like ‘But that’s just me looking like myself!’”
Julia Sweeney appears
at Powell’s Books at 7:30 to read from and sign copies of her new book, “If It’s Not One Thing, It’s Your Mother.”
