Jared Fogel is very well-known as the spokesman for Subway. He lost more than 200 pounds after living a diet of basically nothing but Subway and he has managed to keep it off all this time. He joined Chad on Flight 750 Friday to share his inspirational story.Jared insists that deciding to change his diet and his lifestyle was probably the most important decision he has ever made in his life. He just wishes he would have made it a little sooner.
“As heavy as I was (which I was over 425 lbs), when I look back on that and see how restricted my life had become and how few things I could do and how my weight just controlled every bit about my life, I wish I could go back in time and change myself earlier.”
He also talked about why it was so tough for him to make the decision to change his life.
“I lived in denial. I lived in denial for so many years. I didn’t want to accept I had a problem – if someone tried to talk to me about my problem, I’d push them out of my life kind of thing. It was just a tough way to live.”
And finally he talked about how he got involved with the Subway diet.
"I lived next door to a Subway Restaurant when I was in college, when I went to Indiana University. At that point and that weight, I hit my rock bottom – I had sleep apnea, I couldn’t breathe at night, I was just a mess – Well I lived literally next door to a Subway Restaurant and one day I picked up a nutritional brochure and a light bulb went off in my head. I said 'What if I ate two of these low-fat Subway sandwiches every day, maybe this could actually be a way for me to lose some weight.' So I started doing a turkey sub for lunch and a foot-long veggie sub for dinner."
Take a listen to the interview and be sure to check out Jared this weekend as he participates in the American Heart Association Heart and Stroke Walk.
