Brothers Allege Beating by Lillard's Friends
Two brothers are accusing the friends of Portland Trail Blazer Damian Lillard of beating them up early Saturday morning. Jermaine Ulinwa spotted Lillard walking to a parking lot in Old Town at 2:30. When he went up to the group and snapped a picture, Lillard allegedly got upset. The entourage confronted Ulinwa and started pushing him, that is when his brother Phillip came to his defense. He says the group then punched and kicked him repeatedly; ultimately suffering a broken nose and busted lip.
Both the Trail Blazers and Portland Police say Lillard is not a suspect. Though the Ulinwa brothers still blame Lillard for the incident, saying his reaction to the picture escalated the situation.
The melee sullies an otherwise near perfect year for Lillard. He was praised on and off the court during his rookie campaign in Portland. Lillard was a unanimous choice for Rookie of the Year, and was honored by the NBA in March for his commitment to anti-bullying.
