Timbers Push Unbeaten Streak to Nine
Flowers, cards, and three points are what any mom would want on Mother's Day and Portland provided.
In a special Mother's Day matinee game at JELD-WEN, the Timbers extend their franchise-best unbeaten streak to nine after handling Chivas USA 3-0.
The first attack came in the 34th minute, when a quick turnaround off a Donovan Ricketts save lead to a Rodney Wallace fast break goal courtesy of a Ryan Johnson cross.
Wallace's goal would be the only scoring of the opening half, and Portland went to the locker rooms with the 1-0 lead.
Wallace would be a part of Portland's next goal in the 70th minute, this time providing the assist to Diego Valeri who found the back of the net.
Portland wasn't content with just the two goals, perhaps frustrated with the missed opportunities over the last couple games, and continued to attack well into the added time of the second half.
This time it was Will Johnson getting in on the action, bending in a right-footer from inside the box.
The final whistle blew shortly after, and Portland had the 3-0 win.
The victory catapults the Timbers to second in the Western Conference (18 pts) who now sit at 4-1-6 on the season.
