Chris Hardwick: A Singled Out Nerdist
The king of all nerds and the founder of Nerdist
Industries; Chris Hardwick
joined The Bald Faced Truth today to discuss his career and his performances this weekend at Helium Comedy Club in Portland, Oregon.
When you hear the word nerd, you may think of many things; but one man in particular has been able to amass a fortune off of his love for all things nerdish. That man is Chris Hardwick a.k.a. “The Nerdist.”
Hardwick describes Nerdist Industries as, “Basically we just make stuff you would consider to be in the nerdsphere, we make stuff about The Walking Dead
, Dr. Who
, and sci-fi, different video games, we do an annual charity light saber relay run leading up to Comic-Con in San Diego in partnership with Lucas Films, I mean that’s pretty much it. If the name makes sense to you then you probably understand what it is that we do.”
Hardwick opened up about how he got his start in the entertainment business and stand-up comedy, “Like most stand-ups, I always wanted to do stand-up so I started performing in college, worked in television for a little bit and now I’ve been doing stand-up regularly for…gosh; 15 years.”
Hardwick also recalled his time as the host of MTV’s Singled Out
, “I remember dumb hair, I remember the 90’s being in the grunge era of oversized gas station shirts. I remember dudes rhyming their names with like genitals or sexual acts they wanted to do with contestants, I remember Jenny McCarthy farting a lot, and I remember feeling like I was a nerd in a sea of frat guys and jocks which made me horribly uncomfortable and those are some of my memories of that show. It was fun and it was right out of college.”
Make sure you watch The Nerdist
every Saturday at 10pm on BBC America, also watch Talking Dead
