Rejection: Kings to Seattle
While it's not guaranteed that the NBA's Sacramento Kings will stay, an important step in that effort happened today. The league's relocation committee voted unanimously to recommend that team owners reject the application to move the team to the Emerald City.
Seattle investor Chris Hansen wants to buy the franchise and move it north. They'd be renamed the SuperSonics, who left for Oklahoma City in 2008, leaving a sour taste in the mouths of many fans. He's offered $550 million and would own 65% of the franchise.
The Maloof family who owns the Kings franchise agreed earlier this year to sell a controlling interest to Hansen's group.
The committee is made up of 12 league owners. A final decision on the team's future will be made in two weeks at the NBA Board of Governors meeting.
