Greg Walden At Odds With GOP Leaders
Oregon Congressman Greg Walden upset both Democrats and fellow Republicans this week when he attacked the President's budget plan to trim Social Security cost of living increases. Walden told CNN's Wolf Blitzer it "really lays out kind of a shocking attack on seniors." The proposal was included as a concession to Republicans and the uproar over Walden's comments grew so loud, House Speaker John Boehner met with reporters and told them he agrees with the President and that he had a stern talk with Walden who chairs the House GOP Campaign Committee, a post that traditionally serves as the party's attack dog. Walden is sticking by his comments. He issued a release that says he "disagrees with President Obama's political plan that hurts current seniors just so he can pay for more wasteful spending." Conservatives are upset with Walden and are threatening to run someone against him in the next primary.
