The Taxman Cometh
Taxing the rain?
I know you've heard that Beatles song, "Taxman," about all the things the government would tax if it had the chance.
The State of Maryland has decided it needs more money from their citizens. You pay based on how much rain falls on your property, and how many square feet of what they call "impervious surface" - thing like the roof of your house, or your driveway - is effected by that rain.
The total take is going to be north of $300 million. We're talking about $14 BILLION in the next ten years or so. It's a ridiculous amount of money.
And the idea that the government would tax the rain? It sounds like something you'd find written on a political satire site like The Onion.
But it's real life for Maryland citizens.
